Patrick (Pamela's Husband) in the background teaching Jake the correct way to eat the Sadza and food. Jake did great!!
Very popular Shona snack. We haven't had it yet but we will definitely be trying it.
Yes they are dried caterpillars. They sell them right in the grocery store with the snack items. We heard the fresh cooked are better.
Yes they are roast chicken chips. You think it would be a dream come true for me. But they are not that great tasting. All of their chips are meat flavored. Thank goodness they do have some plain ones. I have had roast chicken quite a few times here homemade. It has been really yummy!! Can't live without my roast chicken..
Our full African Meal that Pam cooked. It was delicious. Especially the Sadza and Peanut Butter Pumpkin Leaves.
The only other thing I have had was tripe. I forgot the Shona name for it. Jake wasn't with me but I was on a call with Pamela and her call is from Bostwana and makes the tripe and I found out later some of the intestines were also in there not just stomach. They make it different then the Shona Pam said. But the sauce was good but the tripe and intestines were spiny. Definitely not something I would do again. The two bites were all I could handle.
We will see what else we will be trying. We will keep you update..
Miss you guys but so happy to see your experiences! Eat a meat chip and think of me!
ReplyDeleteWhat is sadza? Peanut butter pumpkin leaves sounds interesting. :)
ReplyDeleteNice to see some pictures! Beautiful tea plantation....
Sadza is thick grits. It is thick enough you can grab some and scoop it the stew up.
ReplyDeleteMiss you too.. Thank everyone for the comments. Sorry I haven't been responding. Sometimes we don't have access. But when we do we love hearing from everyone...
ReplyDeleteHey There...Loving all your pictures and comments from everyone. I have to say some of the food would be difficult but chicken chips sounded good. Tripe ... not so much! I really loved the place you are mainly staying. Very glad to see a real bathroom with toilet! That is a plus!!!! Miss you lots...Love, Lois & Peter
